Data Collection Requirements

Data collection will be the largest workload in the asset management program, and the scoping of this workload will be a critical part of the needs analysis or project evaluation stage. It is dependent upon the:

• Number of asset management systems involved
• Integration required between systems
• Complexity or level of data entry that is chosen for the asset components, i.e. the level to which the organization chooses to take a manageable asset item
• Availability of data and the sources of data that are easily accessed, and the way in which data that is not currently available will be collected
• Processes adopted by the organization to verify the accuracy of the data, and the degree and level of verification that is adopted
• Factors outside the control of the organization such as weather conditions and staff losses/changes etc.
