Dynamic assets
Unlike the civil assets, mechanical and electrical assets normally have very much shorter effective lives of between 5 to 50 years. Failures of these dynamic assets are perceived straight away as disruption to the operation which may lead to idling of other plants, labor and loss of production income.
Failures of mechanical and electrical assets were also of more frequent occurrences because of shorter effective lives.
Failure records are also more systematically collected and detailed analysis carried out, e.g. analyses on Mean Time Between Failures (MTBF), Mean Time To Failure (MTTF), and many failure distributions such as the Weibull distribution and the Poisson's distribution have been adopted.
