User Friendliness

An important element in the implementation of any IT system is how easy it is to use.

There are a number of factors that will determine the perception of 'user friendliness', including:

  • Whether the user had input into the system's design or specification
  • Whether an appropriate level of training was provided
  • Use of specialist language
  • Use of graphical representations, eg icons, diagrams etc
  • Speed and access
  • How customisable the system is to the individual, eg building and saving special reports
  • Access to an IT specialist administrator or administrative functions
  • Ongoing development or flexibility of the system.

Consideration of these factors will influence the acceptance and overall success of the system and should be considered in the needs analysis and design phase.
