Management Setup Phase

The management setup phase can consume 15 - 25% of the resources required for asset management, but it is a vital step and will include some or all of:

  • A needs analysis study including the estimation of resources, benefits and the setting up of a priority program
  • Developing the draft inventory systems to identify all of the assets the organization holds and the relative levels or classifications of those assets
  • Developing the coding or numbering system for the categories and classifications of assets.

The management setup phase will have three parts to it:

  • The corporate issues and the guidelines being set up for the whole of the organization
  • The equivalent guidelines and principles to be adopted with respect to each of the individual asset groups
  • The various activities related to asset management: financial, economic, long term strategic (predictive) planning or day to day maintenance and operations.
