Quality of Links - Mission and CIP

The review team looks at the links between the business drivers or objectives and the activities in the capital expenditure program.

These links will be carried through a program/sub-program structure:

Many of the business drivers may be assisted by only one capital works activity. This is quite common and should be accepted, however it is important that the business cases and the final programs can show the benefits for each of the key program areas.

For example, by implementing SCADA to distributed networks of gas or electricity, with the facility to remotely control and provide local, logical or automated control, the organization will have derived benefits in:

• Improved customer service through the reductions of failures and through increased response times by maintenance crews
• Improved efficiency through the ability to redistribute load or capacity problems
• Reduced operations and maintenance staff due to more efficient practices
• The ability to monitor system failure and better predict the renewal of the asset.
