Information and Data Availability

Sound commercial tactics rely on good decision-making, which in turn relies on a thorough understanding of assets, and core and non-core activities.

Data must be collected and collated in order for this understanding to be developed.

Access to good information and data is also of critical importance to contractors, as this enables them to perform their asset management roles.

Information and data availability requires:

• A clear understanding of the information required, for both internal staff and contractors (See also Information Systems and Data and Knowledge)
• A rigid and consistent process for the collection of this information (See also Information Systems and Data and Knowledge)
• A feedback system (See also Information Systems)
• A reporting system that enables useful data sets, summaries and representations of the data to be accessed. (See also Information Systems)

Each of these items is critical to providing the level of information and data availability that is needed to provide sound asset management.
